Colour Work Mittens

Colour Work Mittens

with Venessa Bentley of Working Hands Fibre Arts Studio

Thursdays 6:30-8:30 p.m. January 11, 18, 25, Feb 1, 2018

Add a pop of colour to a November day.

These colour work mittens will make you smile from cuff to fingertips!

You will learn:

  • to add your own design touches to the cuff
  • to read a colour work chart
  • to get a good fit
  • to work on wooden dpns comfortably
  • to strand your yarns for maximum pop and excellent tension
  • to create a thumb gusset in pattern
  • to knit a thumb Norwegian style
  • to finish beautifully
  • to block (and make a blocker if you need one)

You will need 1 ball each of 3 colours of Peer Gynt (non-superwash wool) if you wish to knit them like Venessa’s.  2 balls each of 2 colours if you would like 2 colour mittens.  You will use a small amount of the 2nd balls, so if you buy 3 of each you will have enough to make 2 pairs.  High contrast yarns work best for this style of mitten.  Buying one extra ball for swatching is recommended.  The free ravelry pattern will be provided for you in a binder, where you can make notes, and keep your swatches.

Please swatch on your dpns before the first class, on 3.25 mm, 3.5 mm, and 3.75 mm. Your swatch can be made in one piece with garter stitch between the needle changes.  Please knit at least 2” in stockinette stitch in each size and tag your piece with each needle size.  This will be a great reference piece for your binder, and once you’ve done it, you can knit many pairs, knowing they will fit.

Yarn and needles can be purchased for the class, 10% discount.
