Knit a Baby Sweater from the Top Down

with Venessa Bentley of the

Working Hands Fibre Arts Studio

Four Thursday evenings, Oct 28, Nov 4, 18 and 25

6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Beginning your project at the neck and working Top Down provides many opportunities for you to try on your garment and customize the fit.

This adorable Baby Fir Jacket by Isabel Demarchais (pattern found on ravelry) is a wonderful way to learn the techniques which include: knitting the neckband first; shaping the shoulders; creating raglan shaping for the sleeves; and setting the sleeve stitches aside while you work the body in one piece.  You will learn to make buttonholes, sew on buttons, and add a little lace, worked from a chart.  Later, you will return to the sleeves and work them in the round to the cuffs.

This program will suit first time top down knitters, and experienced knitters who would like to practice their skills on a small scale.

We will meet for 4 Thursday evening classes, (We will miss the week of November 11 to acknowledge Remembrance Day.)

6 to 8:30 p.m.

The class is spread over 5 weeks, with a goal of finishing the garment in that time.

You may wish to knit more than one!

Venessa's sample is knit in fingering weight yarn: Drops Baby Merino, Colour 02, and there are many other beautiful colours to choose from.

Please drop into the shop to purchase your yarn and supplies before the first class.

You will need to bring:

2 balls of yarn for 0 to 9 months; 3 balls of yarn for 18 - 24 months

3 mm and 2.5 mm circular needles that are at least 24"

plus 3 mm and 2.5 mm dpns for the sleeves

8 unlocking stitch markers

5 tiny buttons

Please purchase and bring a copy of the pattern to the first class.

You will receive a binder to keep your pattern in, along with Venessa's detailed notes that you will receive during each class.
