Tencel is a man made fibre made from wood pulp, also called Lyocell. Tencel is a shiny, strong fibre with lovely drape. It is often referred to as the "poor man's silk" because of it's sheen and hand.

Tencel fibre is relatively new, it was invented in 1972 and called "Newcell". It is a form of Rayon where bleached, wood pulp is dissolved and then pumped into a spinneret (similar to a fine shower head) to produce a continuous filament.
